Chemical industry seeks credibility on product risk

For more than a decade, the chemical industry has paid little more than lip-service to the issue of product stewardship; now, mounting challenges to chemicals are forcing industry bodies to step up their efforts. This year's European Responsible Care conference heard several examples of how chemical companies are taking responsibility for their products. Also evident was a fear that less committed producers could all too easily scupper the industry's efforts. Mamta Patel reports
