Marine strategy fails to impress campaigners

Environmental groups have slammed the European Commission's marine thematic strategy as "desperately inadequate" after a weakened version emerged at the end of October. The strategy abandons a requirement for member states to work together to prepare regional plans for healthy seas, and ducks the tricky question of what constitutes "good environmental status".
