The Environment Agency has approved a fifth carbon reduction standard as an early action metric under the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme. The Carbon and Energy Management System (CEMS) is available from Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance.1
Organisations can use the standard to certify reductions in carbon dioxide emissions achieved before and during the first phase of the CRC.
The first league table on CRC performance, due in October, will be based entirely on two early action metrics: achieving an eligible emissions reduction standard such as CEMS and fitting automatic meter readers (AMRs) on energy supplies.
Equivalent schemes include the Carbon Trust Standard and the Certified Emissions Measurement and Reduction Scheme (CEMARS) (CRC special report, December 2010).
