Malaysian palm oil company censured by certification body

A palm oil company has its certification of new plantations suspended following drainage and illegal deforestation

Palm oilFurther certification of palm oil plantations owned by the Malaysian company IOI has been suspended by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the industry’s sustainable certification body. Its grievance panel ruled that the draining of peatland and illegal deforestation by IOI in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, Borneo, did not comply with RSPO rules.
