European Energy Label goes ‘beyond A’

New label will have A+ and A++ ratings to rank the most energy efficient products

A change to the energy saving label for white goods will be introduced on 20 June to help consumers choose the most energy efficient product.

The current European Energy Label, introduced in the mid 1990s, rates product energy efficiency in descending order from A to G. Its system of green (most efficient) to red (least efficient) coloured coded bars is familiar to buyers of household electricals. A product’s energy consumption (kilowatt hours) is also given on the label.
