Thames to change super sewer sites

Water company makes changes in response to opposition from Londoners

The majority of construction sites for Thames Water's proposed super sewer face opposition, according to a report issued by the company.

Thames issued details of the planned route for the 20-mile long sewer last year, including necessary construction sites seeking residents views (ENDS Report, September 2010).

The sewer will intercept storm overflows along the Thames which currently cause pollution every time there is a major rainfall.

The report says Thames is now considering changes at 13 of the 23 planned sites following the feedback from residents.

Three sites may not need to be connected to the super sewer, it adds. Modelling has revealed it may be possible to deal with sewer overflows by "local in-sewer modifications".
