London buses trial new equipment to tackle NOx air pollution

London buses test new selective catalytic reduction techology.

Transport for London (TfL) is carrying out a trial that will retrofit18 buses with new technologies designed to tackle NOx air pollution in the capital.

One of the technologies being looked at is selective catalytic reduction (SCR), which turns harmful NOx to nitrogen and water (ENDS Report, August 2010).

The trial will be carried out on three different types of buses, and will last for a year. The best performing technology will then be rolled out to further buses in the fleet.
