Two campaign groups have attacked the European Food Safety Authority for alleged industry bials

Two campaign groups have attacked the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) for alleged industry bials.

Environmental NGOs ClientEarth and Pesticide Action Network (PAN) Europe are taking EFSA, which assesses risks posed by pesticides, genetically modified crops and chemicals in food contact materials, to court over a perceived lack of transparency in the way recent guidance for new pesticides was drawn up.

The guidance favours safety studies carried out by industry over the work of independent scientists, the groups say. In a letter to PAN Europe, EFSA says this allegation is “baseless and a misrepresentation of the fact”.
