The Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) has created a new membership level.
The ‘member’ grade (MCIWEM) is available to those seeking professional recognition at a level below that of chartered member (C.WEM).
Applicants must have a UK honours degree or equivalent and relevant professional experience. Members may progress to chartered status and gain recognition as a chartered engineer, environmentalist or scientist.
Rosemary Butler, CIWEM director of membership and professional development, said gaining MCIWEM status would improve people’s career prospects, offer peer recognition and enhance their professional status.
The monetary benefits of gaining professional qualifications were also revealed in a survey by ENDS along with CIWEM and the Society for the Environment (ENDS Report 434, p 44). One in five green professionals said they had received a pay rise as a direct result of gaining more qualifications.
