Use of sustainably sourced cotton is at the heart of a plan by Adidas Group to improve the sustainability of its products, operations and supply chain over the next five years.1
The German sportswear giant will, for the first time, start to make products using sustainable cotton in 2012. It has committed itself to 40% sustainable cotton use by 2015, rising to 100% by 2018.
A 15% cut in the environmental footprint of the group’s whole supply chain by 2015, relative to sales, is the plan’s other promise. Adidas says energy savings and resource efficiency measures, combined with increased sourcing of sustainable materials, will achieve this cut.
