Smog warning as London breaches particulate limit

A series of air pollution episodes this year, culminating in the first smog warning for two years, has lead to an early breach of particulate limits in central London.

Peak PM10 concentrations in London between 17 and 21 April. Figures of 1-3 indicate low pollution, while 7-9 are very high.An official smog warning was issued on Thursday 21 April after elevated levels of ozone and coarse particulates (PM10) were detected across much of the UK. The last such warning was in June 2009.
