The PVC sector has met voluntary targets on recycling and heavy metals, industry representatives said in April.

Cadmium has been phased out of PVC ahead of schedule and the sector is on track to replace lead-based stabilisers by 2015.

Ten years ago PVC manufacturers, together with plastics firms and suppliers of stabilisers and plasticisers, launched a ten-year voluntary programme, Vinyl 2010, to stave off the threat of EU legal restrictions on the polymer (ENDS Report 400, pp 26-27).
