China continues to take 61% of the UK’s recovered paper and 88% of its recovered plastics, according to a report from the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP).1

The trade in recycled materials was badly affected by the recession in 2008, but recovered quickly in 2009, the report says (ENDS Report 407, p 7). In 2010 the picture was mixed: exports of plastics from the UK increased, but paper exports fell slightly.
