Malaysian palm oil company censured by certification body

Further certification of palm oil plantations owned by the Malaysian company IOI Group has been suspended by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil

Further certification of palm oil plantations owned by the Malaysian company IOI Group has been suspended by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO), the industry’s sustainable certification body.1

Their grievance panel ruled that the draining of peatland and illegal deforestation by IOI in the Malaysian state of Sarawak, Borneo, did not comply with RSPO rules.

The firm retains its RSPO licence for now, but the RSPO suspended the current and ongoing certification process for IOI plantations.
