New car emissions fell 3.5% in 2010

Emissions of new cars sold in the UK fell by 3.5% in 2010 to an average of 144.2 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders

Emissions of new cars sold in the UK  fell by 3.5% in 2010 to an average of 144.2 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometre, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders’ (SMMT) tenth annual CO2 report.

The fall from 2009 – more than twice the annual average over the past decade – is attributed to technological progress, government policy, improved consumer information and higher fuel prices encouraging efficiency.
