A campaign promoting more fuel efficient, noise reducing tyres was launched by transport minister Norman Baker on March 29.

Coordinated by green NGO Environmental Protection UK (EPUK), the campaign says improved tyres can cut fuel use and CO2 emissions by 10%, vehicle rolling noise by half and braking distance by 18 metres on wet roads.

The campaign is being launched ahead of EU regulations due to enter force in November, which will introduce stricter fuel efficiency, noise and safety standards for tyres.
