Pro-growth planning reform stepped up

The government has come up with further reforms to make the planning system more “pro-growth”. Criticism of the proposals has only intensified

The government used last month’s Budget to widen its reform of England’s land-use planning system, making it more developer friendly (ENDS Report 434, p 9?).1

The changes were criticised by the UK’s two main planning bodies and environmental NGOs, but welcomed by the CBI.

A “powerful new presumption in favour of sustainable development” remains the centrepiece of the reform proposals.
