Convention acts on PFOS and paraquat

The chemical review committee of the Rotterdam Convention has recommended adding three pesticides to the convention’s prior informed consent procedure

The chemical review committee of the Rotterdam Convention has recommended adding three pesticides to the convention’s prior informed consent (PIC) procedure. The three are endosulfan, azinphos methyl and the paraquat formulation Gramoxone Super.

The UN convention committee meeting in Rome made the recommendation on 1 April. It will now go to the fifth meeting of the conference of the parties in June. If accepted, exporters will require PIC from importing countries before goods can be exported.
