EU biodiversity plan light on substance, say Green MEPs and NGOs

The strategy aims to fulfil 2020 goal to halt biodiversity loss

Butterfly. Credit: Lewis CollardThe targets in the European Commission’s new 2020 biodiversity strategy are too meek and tangible solutions are lacking, according to Green MEPs and environmental groups.

The strategy, published on 3 May, plots a course towards an end to biodiversity loss in the EU by 2020. This target was set last year as it became clear that a commitment to halt biodiversity loss by 2010 had been missed (ENDS Report, April 2010).
