Worst energy-wasting landlords to be outlawed

Government will regulate against landlords with the least energy efficient properties

The government has decided to crack down on landlords who rent out the least energy efficient housing by introducing new regulations.

Previously the energy and climate department (DECC) had hoped these landlords would improve their heat-leaking properties voluntarily, with only the threat of regulation held in the background. But lobbying by housing and energy conservation groups has persuaded DECC secretary Chris Huhne to change his mind.
