N Ireland ups ROCs for anaerobic digestion

Northern Ireland has doubled the support available to anaerobic digestion

Northern Ireland has doubled the support available to anaerobic digestion (AD) plants in an effort to promote the technology.

Under the Renewables Obligation, AD plants across the UK get two certificates, or ROCs, for each megawatt hour of electricity they generate. These can be sold to electricity firms and are worth about £50 each.

But the Northern Ireland Executive changed its Renewables Obligation in April so plants up to 500 kilowatts peak capacity receive 4ROCs/MWh.1 Plants between 500kW and 5MW will get 3ROCs/MWh.
