New ecolabel rules for detergents

A new set of ecolabel rules for machine dishwashing and laundry detergents have been published

A new set of ecolabel rules for machine dishwashing and laundry detergents have been published in the official journal of the EU.

These ban phosphates, reduce chemical use and set tighter limits on specified chemicals. They are valid for four years.

Under previous ecolabel rules, less than 10 grams of phosphate per wash was permissible for dishwasher detergents and less than 25g per wash for laundry detergents.

However, the new ecolabel excludes the use of phosphates, EDTA and nitro- and polycyclic musks fragrances in both detergents.
