Unlawful liquid waste disposal costs £56,000

A drain clearance firm and its director have been prosecuted for illegally disposing of wastes and trying to conceal their activities.

Illegally disposing of liquid waste down drains and trying to cover it up have cost a drain cleaning firm and its director more than £56,000.

Preston-based A&D Drain Services and David Rodrigues were sentenced at the city’s crown court on 18 April. They had each pleaded guilty to eight charges in January for offences committed between December 2008 and September 2009.

A&D was charged with illegally disposing of controlled waste on 226 occasions, contrary to section 33(1)(b) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990. It was also charged with disposing of hazardous waste in a manner likely to cause pollution or harm to human health on 113 occasions, breaching section 33(1)(c) of the act.
