Guidance documents on using solvents in premises regulated by local councils in England and Wales has been published by the environment department (DEFRA).1

They focus on stopping the release of volatile organic compounds, which help form low-level ozone.

The 21 process guidance notes were consulted upon last autumn (ENDS Report 429, p 38). DEFRA is reviewing all guidance for ‘part B’ or Local Authority Pollution Prevention and Control (LAPPC) industrial processes.
