Government sceptical over EU soils proposals

A proposed EU Directive on soil protection is not needed to help the UK address the risks to soils, DEFRA says. It maintains that the European Commission has failed to consider fully the costs and benefits and has underestimated the expense of preparing a contaminated land inventory.
