Leading air quality expert dies

Air quality expert Ian McCrae has died suddenly aged 46, only days after giving evidence to a Commons Environment Audit Committee inquiry.

Employed as a senior technical manager by TRL, the UK’s Transport Research Laboratory, his research focused on how air quality is affected by emissions from transport.

He was a member of the government’s air quality expert group and advised several local councils, the Department for Transport and the Highways Agency.

He was also a committee member of the Institute of Air Quality Management and on the air quality committee
