Comment: Coalition’s nuclear nonsense

Without a clear plan and support, Britain's energy policy is likely to end in a glut of gas-fired power, failure to meet carbon budgets, and tears

There are loads and loads of green goodies in the new coalition’s programme for government unveiled by the so-called Cleggon this month (page 5). If ministers make progress on most of these environmental and climate commitments, we should be well on course for a greener, decarbonised Britain.

There are further big ifs. Will the coalition hold together for more than a year? Will it be possible to implement these policies while cutting public spending on environmental protection, energy and climate, transport and business support?
