Business looks to exploit solar PV feed-in tariff

Several businesses are offering housing associations solar PV units for free in return for the revenue from the government’s feed-in tariffs. Some are likely to receive far higher returns on their investment than the government expects.

Solar Panels, from Solar CenturyThe number of solar photovoltaic (PV) units on UK roofs is set to boom with several firms offering to install systems on housing association properties for free in return for the revenue from the government’s feed-in tariffs (FITs). The tenants, many in fuel poverty, will benefit from lower electricity bills.

The UK had just 32 megawatts of peak capacity solar installed at the end of 2009, according to Eurobserver’s latest report.1 Germany had 9.8 gigawatts.
