The number of small wind systems in the UK this year is expected to rise, ending two years of stagnation, according to a report by trade association RenewableUK.1
It estimates 6,700 units will be installed in 2010, compared with 3,280 in 2009 and 3,453 in 2008. Small wind systems have up to 100 kilowatts peak capacity.
The systems will have a cumulative peak capacity of 21.57 megawatts, equivalent to seven full-size wind turbines. The UK’s existing small wind capacity is not much higher at 28.7MW.
