Makers of eco-products are not providing enough evidence to substantiate their green claims, according to a report by consumer organisation Which?.
Which? asked a panel of scientists to look at 14 household eco-products, including toilet cleaners, laundry tablets and cleaning wipes.
Almost half were accused of greenwashing for not explaining their claims.
Ecover, seen as a pioneer in eco-detergents, was condemned for not providing enough evidence of its detergents’ biodegradability. The firm criticised the report for its narrow focus and ignoring manufacturers’ wider business practices.
