Farm scheme to help biodiversity slow to take off

A scheme to boost farm biodiversity and protect natural resources has not had a strong take-up by farmers

Set-aside land for wildlife haven, Duncan WestburyOnly 25% of farmers have taken action as part of a voluntary scheme to boost environmentally beneficial land management. The figures were revealed in a survey of holdings by the environment department (DEFRA) released at the end of May.

The Campaign for the Farmed Environment (CFE) is a farmer-led scheme aiming to recapture the environmental benefits of the defunct set-aside scheme.
