Thames desalination plant a ‘sticking plaster solution’

The UK’s first mainland desalination plant opened in June, but was not welcomed by the London Assembly environment committee

Thames Water's desalination plantThe UK’s first mainland desalination plant was officially opened on Wednesday 2 June.

The £270m Gateway Thames Water facility is sited at Beckton, east London.

Chairman of the London Assembly environment committee Darren Johnson claimed the plant was a cover for the company’s appalling leakage performance.
