Unilever offers few details on green pledge

Unilever has promised to cut the overall environmental impact of its products across their life-cycles while doubling its turnover. The target sounds bold but is impossible to assess without more information

Unilever is one of the largest food and consumer goods companies in the world with a turnover of €40bn (£33bn) in 2009 and an operating profit of €5bn. It is the market leader in several product categories including tea, ice cream and deodorant. Big-name brands include Flora, Domestos, Persil and Dove.
