Bonn climate talks forge new negotiating text

Negotiators at the UN mid-year climate talks in Bonn have moved on from the failure at Copenhagen, with acceptance of a new draft negotiating text incorporating principles of the controversial Copenhagen Accord, and limited progress on technical issues

Six months after the Copenhagen climate summit failed to achieve a comprehensive global deal on climate change (ENDS Report 420, pp 32-36), formal talks in Bonn in early June under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) made only slow progress.

But there is evidence that momentum is finally building again after the long interregnum following the acrimonious, political dialogue at the scheduled intersessional meeting in Bonn, and a new willingness to make progress on technical issues.
