Uncertainty over support for renewable heat

The government has yet to spell out how it will support the installation of heat-generating microrenewables. Meanwhile, details on people claiming feed-in tariffs have emerged

The coalition government is yet to confirm if it will go ahead with the previous government’s renewable heat incentive (RHI). And it has closed the only existing grant scheme for heat-generating microrenewables.

The RHI was due to come into force in April 2011 and pay the owners of equipment such as biomass boilers a tariff per kilowatt hour of heat generated (ENDS Report 421, pp 46-47). It was likely to be financed through a levy on gas bills.
