Four more carbon fraud arrests

HM Revenue and Customs arrested four people in London and Leicester in May for suspected carbon trading fraud

HM Revenue and Customs officers arrested four people in London and Leicester on 20 May, in a suspected £38m carbon trading fraud investigation.

The alleged fraud involved selling EU emissions trading scheme allowances and suspected diversion of VAT, known as ‘carousel fraud’. The latest arrests follow 22 made in the UK in May (ENDS Report 424, p 18) and others in a fast-growing crime
