The European Commission has ruled out targets for the separation, collection and recycling of biowastes until 2014 at the earliest

The European Commission has ruled out targets for the separation, collection and recycling of biowastes – wastes that are biodegradable – until 2014 at the earliest. The comment appears in a policy paper issued in May.1

The commission has been assessing the need for legislation to manage biowastes since 2008 – a requirement of the revised Waste Framework Directive (ENDS Report 401, p 6).
