Public inquiry set for Lydd Airport expansion

Communities Secretary Eric Pickles calls in plan to build next to environmentally protected areas and a nuclear power station.

AeroplaneCommunities secretary Eric Pickles called in the proposed expansion of Lydd Airport in Kent on 24 June, almost three months after it was approved by Shepway District Council. Its owner is seeking permission to build a 450 metre runway extension, a new terminal building and a car park.

A public inquiry on the plans will now be held by the Government Office for the South East.
