The Carbon Trust has launched a low-cost version of its Carbon Trust Standard for certified emissions performance aimed at small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs). Smaller organisations “have a vital role to play” in the UK drive to cut carbon emissions, the trust said.
More than 400 organisations have signed up to the standard, so far, making it Britain’s leading certification system for carbon emissions performance (ENDS Report, September 2010). However, only 17 of them are SMEs.
The new online assessment and certification service will be available for £450 plus VAT, less than half what the Carbon Trust has charged so far.
Organisations with annual energy bills of up to £50,000 will be eligible for lower-priced certification. This is roughly a tenth of the threshold for organisations to be full participants in the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Energy Efficiency Scheme.
