Case study: Alney Island
Despite the complexity of Part IIA, Gloucester City Council has successfully used the regime to tackle a site on Alney Island, an area of land stretching out from the city. The council’s contaminated land officer Stephen Moreby describes this site as "a microcosm of the UK: a small, crowded island, with an industrial legacy" and says it is "exactly the sort of site that Part IIA was designed for".
