More on offshore transmission regime

The Business Department (BERR) and Ofgem are consulting on details of their proposed offshore electricity transmission regime.1

Last year, the government announced firms would competitively tender to design, build and maintain the transmission network for individual offshore wind farms (ENDS Report 387, p 44 ).

Further details are now under consultation, which will address how the transmission network owners will receive revenue, and how the operators of existing wind farms will recoup the money they have already invested in transmission infrastructure.

The consultation ends on 25 February. BERR and Ofgem hope to introduce the regime by the end of the year.
