MPs call for tougher Climate Change Agreement targets

Businesses should be set more demanding targets through Climate Change Agreements (CCAs), the House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee said in a report released on Monday

The targets should also require absolute reductions in firm’s carbon dioxide emissions, the report says.

Companies signing up to CCAs receive up to 80% discount on the Climate Change Levy in return for meeting energy efficiency or emissions reduction targets. The committee thinks that the targets are insufficiently demanding and it calls on the Environment Department (DEFRA) to ensure they are “considerably toughened” in a review later this year.
