New chief for Friends of the Earth

Friends of the Earth UK’s new chief executive is Andy Atkins, currently the policy and campaigns director for relief and development charity Tearfund. He will take over from Tony Juniper, who has lead the campaigning group for six years, in August.

Since leaving London’s University College, geography graduate Mr Atkins has campaigned for human rights and third world development, much of it focused on Latin America. He is 47, married with three children and was a leading organiser behind the Make Poverty History campaign against third world debt in 2005.
