Environment Agency adjusts WEEE collection figures

Figures for the collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) for the regime’s first compliance period have been reduced by 17%, the Environment Agency has announced.1

In December, the Agency said some 6.25 kilograms of consumer WEEE will be collected for treatment per person per year, based on collection figures since July (ENDS Report 395, p 22 ). However, it has been forced to revise this estimate because an IT glitch meant waste firm Veolia misreported its data.

The Agency now estimates that 5.2kg of WEEE will be collected per person per year. This still meets the EU’s target of 4kg per person per year set in the WEEE Directive.
