Commission consults on offshore wind

The European Commission will develop an action plan to boost offshore wind farms. It aims to ensure the EU can get 20% of its energy from renewables by 2020, as required by the draft renewable energy Directive (ENDS Report 399, pp 24-28 ).

As a first step, it has published an online consultation asking for views on barriers to offshore wind and ways these can be overcome.1It includes questions on grid infrastructure, consenting procedures, support schemes and technology constraints. The consultation closes on 20 June.
