Wales sets targets for microgeneration

Targets to install 200,000 micro-renewable units producing electricity and 100,000 producing heat by 2020 are the keystones of the Welsh Assembly’s microgeneration action plan.1

It also has a target for 50 combined heat and power plants or district heating systems by 2020.

The Welsh Assembly intends to set targets for individual business sectors to install micro-renewables by the end of the year.

These are the first such targets set by either the UK government or the devolved administrations.

The plan identifies six areas in which the Welsh Assembly Government should take action. These include increasing public awareness, expanding skills amongst installers and planners, supporting industry and setting up exemplar projects.
