Forestry Commissioners’ legal duties clarified

The High Court has held that Forestry Commissioners for almost a decade have misinterpreted their legal duties concerning environmental assessment of projects involving deforestation. Until now the Commissioners have confined their screening assessment of potential environmental impacts to the loss of forestry involved, but the High Court has held that they must also consider the impacts of subsequent developments.
