New requirements in revised surface treatment guidance

The Environment Department (DEFRA) has published final draft guidance for companies with solvent-based surface treatment processes regulated by local authorities under the integrated pollution prevention and control regime.1

The guidance has been reviewed to improve its coverage of non-air issues, which were not adequately covered in the original version.

It contains several new requirements on discharges, resource efficiency and waste to reflect the ‘best available techniques’ in the sector.
