Groundwater pollution uncovered at Buncefield
Fears that the explosion and fire at the Buncefield fuel depot could contaminate local groundwater appear to have been realised with the recent discovery of oil in a nearby borehole. PFOS, a persistent compound used in firefighting foams, has also been found but the Environment Agency says it is not clear whether it originated from the incident.
