Wal-Mart: the conversion of a retail giant
The need to attract affluent consumers has led Wal-Mart, the world's biggest company, to embrace corporate responsibility. In developing plans to cut carbon emissions and waste, reports Geraint Roberts, the company has belatedly realised how good environmental practice can reduce costs and risk exposure, while its product initiatives could drive up standards across retail supply chains world-wide.
